GBN upgrades fleet with £450,000 investment
Three new state-of-the-art lorries and four vans have hit the road this month following a £450,000 investment by GBN—the latest stage in the firm’s continuous vehicle upgrade programme.
The company has bought two Mercedes-Benz Arocs 2651 articulated units for hauling waste in bulk and a Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3240 vehicle for delivering and collecting large roll-on roll-off containers. These all feature GBN’s distinctive orange and black livery.
In addition, GBN has taken delivery of four silver vans for use by its mechanics and depot staff— taking its total investment to £450,000.
The lorries meet stringent Euro VI standards for low emissions and are fitted with the latest safety technology, including windows in the near-side doors for spotting vulnerable road users, side-scan cameras and audible warnings.
“We are working in the most congested part of the country so anything we can do to make our fleet safer has to be done”, explains Alan Barber, Group Transport Manager for GBN.
The vehicle investment was prompted by the forthcoming introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone in London, which will see very strict exhaust emission standards come into force in April 2019.
Mr Barber explains: “We are continuously replacing our old vehicles with new vehicles to reduce emissions and to make sure our service is as reliable as possible.”
The vehicles will join GBN’s 250-strong fleet, based across the company’s six depots serving London and the South East.
