Chunky’s dustcart visits Manor Fields School
Children at Manor Fields Primary School in Bishop’s Stortford got to experience a dustcart up close during a recent visit from GBN.
The company brought a waste collection vehicle known as Chunky’s dustcart to the school playground to show to two reception classes. The children listened to a presentation about the vehicle and were shown how it works, before climbing aboard for a photo.
Based at GBN’s Harlow depot, Chunky’s dustcart is used for commercial waste collections in the local area of Hertfordshire and Essex. It features a bin lift capable of lifting a range of different bin sizes and is driven by Colin Brown, known as ‘Chunky’.
The visit was arranged by Amy Dickens, whose daughter Amelia attends the school. Ms Dickens is currently on maternity leave from her role in customer service at GBN. She was accompanied on the trip by Amelia’s father Nathan, a GBN driver, GBN business development manager Karen Smith and Mr Brown.
“The children loved it and sent thank you notes and pictures in the next day”, explained Ms Smith. “The teachers were very pleased with how the visit went and thanked Amy for arranging it.”
She added that GBN would be interested in similar educational outings in future, commenting: “It was a great success and we would definitely do it again.”
