Success of £250,0000 driver training scheme
An in-house driver training scheme set up by GBN Services last year has helped the company to meet its legal obligations, reduce accidents and raise standards.
GBN invested £250,000 in April 2016 in a driver training school based in Great Wakering near Southend. Here the company’s drivers are continually monitored and tested to a very high level. The training is delivered by two full-time driver trainers, Jeff Foyster and Charlotte Barber, who also work with drivers at GBN’s various sites.
Since then, all 140 drivers working for GBN Services have advanced through the school and whenever a new driver joins the company, they are immediately inducted by one of the trainers.
“The in-house driver training scheme gives us the flexibility to react to our operational demands and our trainers teach them the things they need to know”, explains GBN Services Group Transport Manager, Alan Barber. “Our standards are high. That has paid off in terms of accident rates.
“From a legal point of view it makes our drivers fully compliant with the laws. And from a safety point of view it is putting the company, employees and the general public in a much better position.”
GBN’s industry-leading driver credentials are crucial because many companies require their waste management contractor to manage work-related road risk to a very exacting standard under schemes including FORS, CLOCs and Crossrail.
