Ricardo Azevedo is one of GBN’s long-standing employees having worked at the organisation for over 20 years.

Reporting to Managing Director, Garry Hobson, Ricardo is employed as Yard Manager at GBN’s Leyton branch; where he is responsible for making sure the depot runs at full capacity and with minimal disruptions.

As part of the management team, he is in charge of handling and overseeing Leyton’s yard staff; making sure they carry out their daily tasks to the best of their abilities, as well as complying with GBN’s health and safety standards by operating its equipment, machines and vehicles properly.

Another principal duty includes liaising with lorry drivers so that waste is collected and assigned to the correct stations on-site.

Before working at GBN Services, Ricardo was employed at retail manufacturer, Brutos Jeans, working in its London-based factory as a manager and supervisor respectively. Following company relocation plans, he left the retailer to pursue other job opportunities, which led to his employment at GBN.

With his experience, Ricardo started working on the company’s picking stations – separating recyclable materials from the large quantities of construction and demolition waste coming in from GBN’s lorries.

Speaking of this in more detail, he said: “I first started working at GBN over 20 years ago on the picking stations. I’ve always been part of Leyton and I love dealing with the machines or as I like to call them the big boys, toys!”

Summing up his experience over the last two decades, he comments: “GBN has given me many great opportunities from operating machinery and driving forklifts to fixing shredders. I’m learning new things every day and it’s thanks to GBN that I’ve been able to build a future for myself both inside and outside of the organisation.”

With Christmas on the horizon, Ricardo said it’s business as usual, as he continues to go above and beyond for GBN and its customers.
