‘GBN went above and beyond’

ARJ Construction started working with GBN Services four years ago and according to Darren Cooper, plant manager for the Stevenage-based firm, they have never looked back.

“We chose GBN for many reasons” he says. “They have a number of locations across London which are a close distance to all of our sites and the service we receive is first class. They also report recycling and landfill diversion rates for each of our sites on a monthly basis which is part of our remit.”

As a principal construction contractor across many sectors, with a turnover of £75 million, it is important for ARJ to work with a reputable and trusted waste management partner.

The Strategy

ARJ hires skips from GBN but also benefits from the company’s other services. For instance, when ARJ were tasked with demolishing an old building in Uxbridge and building a new school, GBN carried out a full analysis of the wastes on site, including some that was hazardous. The company then provided a complete waste removal service followed up with detailed reporting.

“It was traceable from source back to the tip where it was dropped. It was an example of where GBN went above and beyond”, says Mr Cooper.

“Having reporting and transparency for waste and recycling is crucial for getting sign off and getting jobs under the Considerate Constructors Scheme and BREEAM.”

Proven Results

Today, GBN handles thousands of tonnes of waste a year for ARJ and the skip hire, recycling and waste company has helped the contractor to reach an impressive recycling rate of 97%.

Mr Cooper concludes: “I would definitely recommend GBN to other companies because of the all round package: The reporting facility; the competitive rates which are reducing our waste costs; the service you get. And if anything goes wrong they are immediately on the phone, not just to me in the office but to the guys on site to let them know. They don’t half make our life a lot easier.”
