GBN Services is very pleased to announce the major acquisition of a new depot in Edmonton, North London.

The four-acre site on Gibbs Road comes as part of a huge 15 Million Pounds capital investment from GBN, in order to provide even more efficient services to their account customers across London. GBN has been working closely with the Environment agency and the traffic commissioners’ office for the past 18 months in order to gain the Environmental Permit and make the site an operations centre required to operate vehicles and process waste from the site.

The investment into the new site includes new fire detection and suppression systems, plant & machinery to increase landfill diversion, enabling GBN to stay at the forefront of waste disposal in London.

Michael Geach, Depot Manager at GBN Services, explained that the site comprises of two buildings, an L-shaped warehouse that we’re currently installing with two new state of the art processing lines, to enable us to recover more recyclable materials to help us achieve our ultimate goal of diverting 100% of active waste from landfill.

The second building will be a designated wood processing plant which allows waste wood to be converted into wood chips, which are then used in fibre board production and Biomass.

Michael, also explains that they have chosen to continue with CRS NI Ltd (who design, manufacture and install premier waste solutions for the recycling industry) for the new equipment and installations due to their extensive knowledge, robust and reliable recycling systems, customer service and minimum lead times for replacement parts, along with the simplicity of use and maintenance and ultimately the end product being the specification required by GBN Services.

“It’s all about increasing recycling and reducing waste sent to landfill. Having it here in one place gives us more, visible transparency with that,” adding that GBN will continue servicing the same areas but with the addition of a “more controlled” infrastructure for customers and colleagues.

Once the installations are completed, the team will test the new picking and shredding lines for optimum efficiency and productivity. The Edmonton site has a licence to process 200,000 tonnes of waste per year and GBN will be operating around 70 vehicles to service its construction and industrial customer sites across London. By the end of 2019 the Edmonton site will be accredited to ISO9001/ ISO14001/ ISO45001 to help achieve our Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety goals.

“By the end of the year, this will be a fully operating depot. It’s a fast-moving business that’s changing every day and we look forward to the challenge,” he added.
