Conditions of Hire
General Conditions
Skips should be 'level loaded'. An overloaded skip can be dangerous to transport, particularly if 'greedy' boards are used. If a skip is overloaded, our drivers reserve the right to refuse to collect the skip until it is made safe for road transport.
Drivers are instructed not to drive on footpaths etc. Should the customer request the driver to do so and damage is caused to a footpath, private road or drive, no responsibility will be taken by GBN Services. Should damage be caused to our vehicle we reserve the right to hold the customer responsible.
Rubbish must not be burnt in the containers - the customer shall reimburse us in respect of any loss or damage caused to the containers by fire, whilst on hire to them.
Skips on the Public Highway
Skips can be arranged for placement on the public roads and verges. However, we will need to arrange a permit from the local council for permission to place such a skip. This will take time to arrange (usually three working days) and will incur additional charges for the permit. We pass these charges onto our customers at cost and the charge will be notified at the time of ordering.
Some London councils have local requirements for skip placements and as such the customer should provide as much detail as possible on the positioning of the skip at the time of ordering.
Skips placed on the public highways must be coned off and if the skip will be left overnight, it must be lit. Please note that we do not provide either lights or cones, but they can be obtained from most builder suppliers and hire shops.
If such a skip is lacking lights, cones or both, the local council can demand that we remove the skip from the public highway immediately. We will do so.
